Bike Swap Raises Funds for Cycling in the Shuswap

The Shuswap Cycling Club hosted its annual Bike Swap during the Salty Street Fest. The bike swap was very successful, lots of kids and playful adults bought and sold their bikes.

Thanks to all that bought and sold their bikes and gear through the swap. We raised $757 to use for upcoming projects and trail work! Thanks also to the volunteers! We had 9 volunteers helping in 40 minute shifts, led by Maya & Zakia who were kept busy running the cash box and stayed from setup to tear down.

Update: CANCELLED- Rubberhead Voly Day

Due to uncertain road conditions on Hwy 1, we have decided to cancel Sunday’s volunteer day at Rubberhead. Stay tuned for details on our next event, scheduled for the weekend of June 3-4.

Consider helping the crew at South Canoe

A sizable crew is needed to fix some drainage issues on the south canoe trails. Skookum is organizing a work party so please consider helping out there instead.

  • Meet at 9am at the lower parking lot.
  • Bring water, trail snacks, pruning loppers, work gloves, hand tools and a Friend!
  • We will park at the Party Pit. The South Canoe parking lot maybe be full during the day with trail users.

Youth Ride Report

25  kids enjoyed a fun night of trail biking Tuesday night! Weather was perfect.

Middle group had 11 kids, 3 trained leaders and 3 parent helpers.

We rode up No Tears, Deer Trail and then had a super fun Slow Bike Race at Malibu Landing. Even had a heat for the adults. We then rode Troll Trail, did the connector back to Blizzard Hill and learned about 1 finger Braking before we attempted the punchy climb. We then enjoyed the curvy descent of Purple Pony Trail back to the parking lot.

The tots had about 10 kids! We worked on our level pedals, maneuvering our bikes, and the all-important tripod. Then we went for a rip up and down the no-tears trail, and there were no tears! Nice work to everyone, see you next week.
