CSRD Building New Bike Path

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District will receive $784,077 for construction of a new parallel bike path along Salmon River Rd.

The initiative is funded through a Provincial program called BikeBC. The path will not extend the entirety of the road, but is nonetheless a welcome addition for roadies and all cyclists in the area. Salmon River Rd is a beautiful place to ride bikes but is twisty, busy and the pavement can be a bit crusty.

Rubberhead Logging

Canoe Forest Products has completed site prep work around the roads and landings that access Muffin Top, Veggie and Meat Grinder trails on Rubberhead.

Harvesting is occurring adjacent to the uppermost road access to the start of Muffin Top. Log hauling down the 110.000 road from this location will occur Mon – Fri,  4am to 5pm daily for the next several weeks.

There are no trail closures associated with this harvesting, however individuals utilizing the 110.000 road for access to the trails must be aware of the increased logging truck traffic and yield the right of way to these vehicles when encountered.

Sign up for the Mt Revelstoke Steamer – Canada’s Longest Hill Climb

The Mount Revelstoke Steamer Hill Climb 2018 is August 26th.

Registration is open with healthy registration numbers coming in already.

IMPORTANT: the early bird discount of $10 ends at the end of day on Thursday 31st May.

The early bird discount means Revelstoke Cycling Association members can currently register for only $10, and it’s $20 for non-members. Your entry fee includes post race food and drink (last year catered by La Baguette and the Modern Bakeshop and Café).

Rider numbers are limited and the event may sell out this year so take advantage of the early bird rate. And for out of town competitors, consider planning ahead and get your accommodation reserved whilst there is still lots available.

More information is on the RCA website.

The Steamer is made possible through the support of Title Sponsor the 112 Restaurant at the Regent Hotel, Parks Canada and many Revelstoke businesses who generously give prizes and food (Tantrum, Flowt, Skookum, Valhalla Pure, Stoke Roasted Coffee, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, La Baguette and The Modern).

A huge thanks to all of our sponsors!

Thanks also to Graham Agassiz from Kona Bikes for bringing the good times and signing posters, Steve Fabro for his MC wizardry, and Jaff Navratil, Sharon Fabro, and Will Wong for bar-tending.

And finally big props to everyone coming out and supporting the Shuswap Cycling Club! We made more than $2k which will be well spent on building and maintaining trails and other great cycling projects.

Salty Street Fest Another Big Success for the SCC

Another Salty Street Fest come and gone, and they are getting better each year!

Thanks to all the volunteers and racers from the High School MTB Team who helped setup and run the BBQ, Bike Valet, and Bike Swap.

A big success with the Street Fest this year was signing up 30 new members, bringing our 2018 army to 232, just a few shy of the total for all of last year.

Also thanks to everyone that came down to the Bike Swap and either donated or picked up some bikes or gear. There were some vintage beauties, a couple of high enders, a few projects, and my personal fave the Palm Bay cruiser. The Bike Swap ended up raising about $1000 for the SCC!

We also sold a few t-shirts and some of our new maps, and had lots of young folks taking a rip on the SCC pump track.

Next up on the calendar is SCC Movie Night, May 25! Tickets for The Moment on sale at Skookum, and are likely to sell out so don’t wait! Along with the great movie showing, […]
