Bike Club Pres Stepping Down

All of us in the Shuswap Cycling Club want to thank Andreas Meerza for devoting many hours of volunteer time. Great job Andreas and we will see you on the trails!

Dear SCC Friends & Members,

It is with great regret that I need to inform you of my resignation from the Shuswap Cycle Club Executive.

My work schedule and family commitments have become such that I cannot continue to volunteer the time necessary to do my job on the board with the thoroughness I would like. I will be resigning effective March 5, 2018.

Thank you for the opportunity, and best wishes to you and the other members going forward.

Sincerely yours,

Andreas Meerza

Bike for Your Life and Beyond – A Community Conversation

Thursday 6:30 p.m. March 1, First United Church Hall, Salmon Arm

Join in conversation with recreational road cyclists who live here in the Shuswap – North Okanagan, described by Shuswap Tourism as a “pedal paradise”. We enjoy cycling adventures and quiet times rolling along scenic paved back roads on our bikes. Cycling provides us with rich experiences in observing, listening to and smelling nature especially here in this beautiful region we call home.

Residents of the Shuswap – North Okanagan live in a “pedal paradise”. One of the ways local cyclists have shared their appreciation for local cycle touring has been to invite fellow cyclists from both near and far (since 1998) to participate in a community bike ride. The Salmon Arm Bike for Your Life Century Ride is 100% volunteer driven and requires ongoing replenishment of its volunteer pool in order to survive and thrive!

At this community conversation we will reflect together on past experiences of the Salmon Arm Bike for Your Life Century Ride and discuss the shape that this event (or another like it) might take in the future.

Interested? Please register online here:

Fat biking in the news on CBC

Our favourite winter past time is in the news. In a new article on the CBC this week, staff from a few ski hills around the province talk about the rise in popularity of fat biking.

As more and more 2-wheeled enthusiasts take up fat biking in the winter, resorts like Silver Star are providing some dedicated groomed goodness

But where there aren’t places like Silver Star with separate fat biking trails, overlap with our nordic skiing brothers and sisters can be an issue, with clubs struggling over access and insurance issues.

We’ve gathered some best practices and tips on how to watch the weather and snow conditions to help you be a responsible fatty. Have a look at our Fat Biking Best Practices page and happy trails!

Harvesting at South Canoe this Winter

Active harvesting will occur this winter around the South Canoe trails, tentatively starting December 11th for about 4 weeks.

Harvesting near the trails will be at a blow-down salvage block at 4 km, which is where the access road into KC and Lumpy leaves the main East Canoe Creek FSR.

There will also be harvesting of a blow-down block just to the North of Mo Betta Mo Buddah.

Active work sites signs will be in place on the road and blocks and the public is asked not to enter these areas. Harvesting and log hauling will continue through to the end of January.

Users of the parking lot at the bottom of South Canoe trails road system trails  and on the East Canoe Creek FSR should expect industrial logging traffic daily Monday – Friday from 4 am to 6 pm.  Anyone parking at the South Canoe parking lot should ensure they leave adequate space for logging trucks to stop and chain up during this period.
