The SCC was out this weekend on two wheels as usual but this ride was a little different. A few weeks ago Shona, from Scotland, reached out to us wondering about joining us for a road ride. We often get questions about road riding in this area from upcoming visitors but what made this one different was that Shona was also looking for a pilot.
She is training for the Ride the North in the Grampian Highlands of Scotland at the end of August. This ride is 180 miles over 2 days. Shona is raising money for Guide Dogs which is a charity close to her heart as she is visually impaired. She loves cycling and has a tandem bike to help her get out on the road.
Alan Journeau, a long time Director for the SCC, actually owns a tandem bike and offered to lend it out. The SCC also has an experienced pilot – Paul Skinner, Director of Road Riding for the SCC, so out they went on Saturday, 80km along Silver Creek […]

Our favourite winter past time is in the news. In a new article on the CBC this week, staff from a few ski hills around the province talk about the rise in popularity of fat biking.
As more and more 2-wheeled enthusiasts take up fat biking in the winter, resorts like Silver Star are providing some dedicated groomed goodness.
But where there aren’t places like Silver Star with separate fat biking trails, overlap with our nordic skiing brothers and sisters can be an issue, with clubs struggling over access and insurance issues.
We’ve gathered some best practices and tips on how to watch the weather and snow conditions to help you be a responsible fatty. Have a look at our Fat Biking Best Practices page and happy trails!
Membership registration for the Shuswap Cycling Society is now live on Zone4.ca.
The Shuswap Cycling Society is the voice for cycling in the Shuswap. Our mandate is to promote cycling through advocacy and hosting or assisting with community cycling events. Our mandate also includes coordinating trail development and maintenance through partnership with the Trail Alliance and the CSRD.
Last year we had over 250 members. The more cycling enthusiasts we have on board, the greater affect our combined voice can have.
